Part of a tract of World War II-era homes built as worker housing

Modernism Week events are ongoing in Palm Springs and plenty of pedigreed homes are up for grabs in the desert city. Case in point: this cozy post and beam by influential modern architect Albert Frey.

The simple residence was constructed in 1946 as part of a tract of homes commissioned as worker housing and designed by Frey at the tail end of World War II. The houses all feature identical floor plans, but different positions on each lot and unique paint jobs so as not to appear too uniform.

This house has plenty of modern style, with wide windows, tiled bathrooms, and plenty of indoor-outdoor access. The 1,150-square-foot home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with an airy kitchen with a vintage stove and refrigerator.

The house sits on a 10,000-square-foot lot, with a large driveway, attached garage, grassy backyard, and  spa/swimming pool. There’s even an outdoor shower—partially enclosed for privacy.

Asking price is $749,000. Worth noting: The home’s historic credentials qualify its owner for some tax breaks under California’s Mills Act.

Take a 3D Tour of Pasadena’s Tournament House

Tournament House Pasadena

About the Tournament House

This Italian Renaissance-style mansion was built in 1906 for the Stimson family in Pasadena’s “Millionaire’s Row”. The house was designed and built by architect G. Lawrence Stimson and his father, George W. Stimson. After most of the Stimson children left the nest, the house became too big for the Stimsons and they sold the house to William Wrigley Jr. in 1914.

The mansion was presented to the City of Pasadena in 1958 by the Wrigley family. They gave their home with the understanding that it would become the permanent headquarters for the Tournament of Roses®. That is why is is known today as the Tournament House.

The Tournament of Roses Association produces the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game each New Year in Pasadena. The Rose Parade was conceived by the Valley Hunt Club in 1890. It served as a mid-winter festival where they would invite their neighbors who moved from the East Coast. Five years later, after the Rose Parade grew too large for the Valley Hunt Club, the Tournament of Roses Association was formed. Today, 935 Volunteers make up the Tournament of Roses, they are affectionately referred to as “White Suiters” because of the distinctive white uniform every volunteer wears.

Rob Weise, Director of Relocation Services, and Meredith McKenzie, Podley Realtor®, joined Realtors from across the globe at this year’s LeadingRE® Annual Conference. LeadingRE® Annual Conference - Cocktails

Northern and Southern California Relocation Directors and Staff got together for a Cocktail Hour

LeadingRE® Annual Conference - Arizona

Rob Weise with Michelle O’Connell of Arizona Best Real Estate headquartered in Scottsdale

  • As members, Podley Properties agents have access to member organizations in all 50 states and in 70 countries. This makes it the largest luxury relocation referral organization in the world.
    .
  • 56% of all referrals actually close, making LeadingRE the most productive referral network of all. When you send out a qualified referral through the LeadingRE network, you have a 50/50 chance of receiving a referral check. That’s better odds than Las Vegas!

Podley Properties Welcomes Priscilla Nelson

Priscilla Nelson - Headshot

Priscilla Nelson grew up in Chino, California, where her father was a pastor at a local church serving the quaint community. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology from U.C. Riverside, she worked in cancer research at world-renowned City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte. She developed a love for real estate while living in beautiful Pasadena, California. The architectural significance of the homes and neighborhoods fueled her passion, and in 2011 she obtained her real estate license.

As a lifelong resident of the Inland Empire/San Gabriel Valley, Priscilla will use her insider knowledge to work to find a special property in your neighborhood of choice and utilize the latest marketing tools to expose your property to the widest possible range of qualified buyers.

Priscilla’s choice to partner with Podley Properties was an easy one to make. As a locally-based company, Podley Properties has a collaborative team that is knowledgeable enough to bring a supportive, personal experience to every transaction and established enough to be known for having an impeccable reputation and many years of experience in the communities it serves. Every transaction has the support of the company’s collective resources and expertise.

In her free time, Priscilla loves being with friends and family. She enjoys exploring new restaurants, seeing her favorite music artists perform, and participating in regional 5k/10K events.
