Quaint 1920s cottage in Altadena seeks $620K
216 WEST TERRACE STREET | ALTADENA 91001
Open House Saturday & Sunday 2-4pm
This charming cottage in the foothills was built in 1925, and it sits in a small community of similar cottages developed and designed by E.P. Janes, a businessman from New York.
The Altadena house’s charm extends indoors. Textured walls, wood floors, arched windows, and barrel and coved ceilings help the residence maintain a cozy cottage feeling that’s amplified by a fireplace and its little niche.
The dwelling holds three bedrooms, at least one of which appears to be in use as a workshop or office.
The rear yard, though mostly concrete, does have mature fruit trees, plenty of space, and a detached garage.
The 1920s house last sold in 2008 for $460,000. It’s now asking $620,000.

The Victorian Foster/Blankenhorn home is an enduring icon of turn of the century Pasadena grandeur. It has been sensitively updated and peppered with whimsical modern surprises.
Throughout the years this stunning Queen Anne Victorian has housed a mix of distinguished people. This list includes a railroad baron, a professional golfer, founders of the Valley Hunt Club and a celebrity radio DJ. This grand dame is visually captivating from the street, and deliciously mixes gabled, hipped and conical forms with boxed eaves, clapboard siding and a wraparound porch.
Lauded as “perhaps the most outstanding example of Victorian architecture still standing” by the Pasadena Star News, this unique property made its big screen debut in 1968’s blockbuster Yours, Mine and Ours, starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.
In addition, this home features eleven-foot ceilings, a dramatic stained redwood staircase and round turret rooms with curved windowpanes. The back yard offers a series of super-sized lighted sculptures that invite conversation. Especially relevant is the no-expense-spared sound proofed music studio with separate vocal booth. This space could also serve as an office, art/dance studio, gym or guest room. Furthermore, the studio has plumbing connections for a possible future bathroom. Because of its contribution to the Markham Place Historic District, and its many historic features, the property is potentially eligible for Mills Act property tax reduction.

We are pleased to announce Sierra Madre’s own Derek Podrebarac as the 2017 Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshal. “The Grand Marshal is a person whose efforts over a long period of time have benefited to the Sierra Madre community. The Grand Marshal title honors a person or persons’ work, dedication and overall enhancements to our community.” Derek is an inspiring leader and volunteer, and has time and again embodied the spirit of Sierra Madre.
Derek Podrebarac spent the last 17 years calling Sierra Madre home with his family. He was born in Pasadena, grew up in La Crescenta and lived in South Pasadena, Monrovia and now Sierra Madre. Derek exemplifies what it means to be a true Sierra Madrean through his passion for giving back to his community. In addition to serving as a Real Estate Agent for Podley Properties, Derek’s volunteer efforts are felt throughout the community. He frequently volunteers at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He gives blood to save the lives of those who rely upon his rare blood type.
Derek is a tireless advocate, and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. He spent time rebuild homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and more recently, projects in Mississippi. He generously donates his time to homeless shelters in Pasadena, and is an active leader in his local church. Derek’s passion for baseball has led him to become a devoted leader with the Sierra Madre Little League. He has coached and managed baseball teams in the league for the past seven years, contributing his talents and energy to multiple teams and age groups simultaneously.
Derek selflessly gives his time to improve youth sports in our community for children of all ages and abilities. For example, he organized, and now heads, the Challenger Division for SMLL, a Little League division designed for special needs children. In addition, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the league.
In addition, Derek serves as a mentor to youth athletes as a baseball coach at Maranatha High School and other schools throughout the region. His motivation for serving his community stems from his pleasure in meeting and getting to know new people and their interests.
