The Story of “Bill Podley and the Podley People”
“Once upon a time, back in 1956, a movie called Invasion of the Body Snatchers was filmed in Sierra Madre. It tells the story of alien plant spores that have fallen from space and grown into large seed pods. These pods make reproductions of the inhabitants of the town and take over their minds and bodies. They are like robots with no feelings.
However, there was one rogue pod accidently left by the invaders that developed into a wonderful man named Bill Podley. This pod is very kind and nice and he really wanted to become an important part of Sierra Madre. So, he opened a Real Estate company and called it Podley Properties and all of his agents are called Podley People. The Podley People sell Pads (homes), not Pods, to all of the good people of Sierra Madre. And they all live happily ever after.”

Pasadena Mid-Century Comes with Rad Fireplace and Arroyo Views for $1.6M
1771 Devon Road, Pasadena 91103
1771Devon.com | Open Sunday 2-4pm
Overlooking the Arroyo Seco, this three-bedroom Pasadena house offers awesome views of the arroyo and beyond.
The main living room and dining area are one big open space, with floor to ceiling windows, skylights, and a vintage fireplace with an unusual circular opening. Elsewhere in the house, there’s another vintage touch: “a hip, 1950’s stereophonic turntable waiting to be restored.”
The remodeled kitchen offers plenty of counter space and new quartz counter tops. The newly renovated master bedroom has a prime location in the house, looking out toward the pool and the patio. A corner of windows afford the room a view of trees and hillsides.
There’s also a pool, reachable by a curving staircase that runs down to the area from the upper landscaped backyard.

1918 House with Secret Wet Bar Asks $1.95M in Posh Pasadena
1234 El Mirador Drive, Pasadena 91103
1234ElMirador.com | Offered at: $1,950,000 | Open Sat & Sun 12-3pm
This timelessly stylish house is located in the ritzy neighborhood near Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, on Linda Vista Avenue, and was designed by the Pasadena firm Marston, Van Pelt & Maybury, which designed several other houses in the area.
Built in 1918, the four-bedroom estate sits on a 13,220-square-foot lot with mature avocado trees, and it has some cool touches, both modern and vintage.
The main residence has been updated, and includes central air conditioning and heating, plus a “robust” earthquake retrofit. A hidden wet bar and two fireplaces are tucked into a nearly 1,000-square-foot basement. In a sign of the times, the garage has a Tesla recharging station and even boasts its own bathroom.
There’s also a renovated one-bedroom guest house with its own kitchen and bathroom. The property has been in the same family for more than 50 years. It’s now listed for $1.95 million.

Sandra knows she has connected with a client when they trust her to show them properties that really fit their needs, not just every new home on the market. She strongly feels a big part of her job is to help clients crystallize their needs. She invests the time up front to really listen to and understand their circumstances, then she can provide the kind of service she pledges to her clients.
Armed with knowledge, energy and a sense of humor, Sandra has helped clients buy and sell homes since 1986. Her previous experience was in the demanding commercial lending industry. She is intuitive and sensitive to others, but a tough businesswoman; a problem solver always striving for a win-win solution.
Sandra advises clients to buy in the best location possible within their needs and finances. She takes her representation duties very seriously, as evidenced by an extraordinarily high customer referral rate from her buyers and sellers. She prides herself on facilitating the process of her clients coming to their own right decisions. Sandra’s commitment to each sale lasts far beyond that one transaction; she feels the key to her clients’ satisfaction is that they see she absolutely knows the market, her areas and inventory, and will continue to be there for them after the sale.

Mark your calendars, folks! The weekend after Labor Day may not be the official start of fall — the first day of fall is September 22 — but it may as well be. Which means, it’s time for another September Sweep!
Schools are back in session, neighborhood pools are closed and white pants are officially off limits. It’s also the ideal time to clean up all the grime summer left behind, as well as prep for the cooler temperatures to come.
Trust us: Gutters are way easier to clean when they’re not clogged to start with. Oh, and frozen pipes are actually preventable if you winterize your sprinklers before the cold sets in.
Enjoy the ultimate guide to getting your home ready for fall, courtesy of Patch and HomeAdvisor. Here’s what to do and who to hire now so you can start enjoying fall ASAP. Happy September Sweep!
Winterize Sprinklers: Any water left in the sprinkler system or pipes could freeze, crack and ruin the system. This inexpensive task can save more than $1000 in total replacement.
Gutter Cleaning: The leaves likely haven’t fallen yet but get ready. Gutters that are full of leaves can hold water and pull down your entire gutter system, and sometimes parts of your roof.
Weatherstripping: This little task can pay for itself with the savings you’ll see on on your energy bill. Filling the gaps around doors and windows will ensure you’re warming your home, not your neighborhood.
Window Caulking/Inspection: Caulking around the windows also helps keep heat from escaping. While you’re at it, have someone inspect the integrity of your windows. If they are more than 25 years old, it’s likely time for new ones.
Roof Inspection: This is your first line of defense against the weather. A quick roof inspection by a professional can tell you if you have any weak spots that could cause serious damage during the bad weather.
Carpet Cleaning: Sand. Need we say more? Get rid of the grit and grime that summer left behind with a professional carpet cleaning before fall.
One-Time Deep Clean: Sanitizing kitchen areas, bathrooms and everything in between after a long, hot summer is crucial to starting fall so fresh and so clean.
Furnace Tuneup: Naturally, you need to change your furnace filter if you haven’t since last winter, but also hire a furnace repairman to make sure your unit is tip-top. A quick tune up can identify problems before they start, and also help optimize your system for the brutal months ahead.
Odds & Ends:Of course if you have special items like a pool, water feature, or hedges to protect from the cold weather, now is the time. If you beat the rush, you can always find a contractor who has the time. However, if you wait until the busy season to contact a pro, you might be waiting for a while.
