This two-bedroom house on 1406 Alameda Avenue is pretty much a little nugget of suburbia. Built in 1939, the two-bedroom is located in Glendale. Plus, it has a manageable lawn and a backyard pool—it might as well come with kids and a dog.

The interiors have been updated, most noticeably in the kitchen, where there are marble countertops, a farmhouse sink, and a butcher block-topped center island. The living room hosts a crop of windows. Flowing into those two spaces is a large dining room.

The lone bathroom features retro pink and red tile, and a separate shower and bathtub. In the rear yard, there’s a large pool, a covered patio, and a mural painted on the detached garage.

Last sold in 2009 for $525,000, public records show, the house is now asking $769,000.

This sweet Craftsman in Sierra Madre is just lovely. The house, built in 1921, is clad in redwood exterior siding and has an oversized front door. And, inside, there is a lot more glorious wood: white oak floors, wainscoting of mahogany, fir and redwood. French doors and casement windows abound.

The house’s three bedrooms are spacious and bright, and the bathrooms all feature vintage-looking tilework.

Saltillo tiles cover the floor of the dining room, which over looks the spacious rear yard. The house sits on a nearly 11,000-square-foot lot that includes a spa and views of the San Gabriel Mountains nearby.

The house in the foothills last sold in 1979 for $97,500. It’s now listed for $1.499 million.

216 WEST TERRACE STREET | ALTADENA 91001
Open House Saturday & Sunday 2-4pm

This charming cottage in the foothills was built in 1925, and it sits in a small community of similar cottages developed and designed by E.P. Janes, a businessman from New York.

The Altadena house’s charm extends indoors. Textured walls, wood floors, arched windows, and barrel and coved ceilings help the residence maintain a cozy cottage feeling that’s amplified by a fireplace and its little niche.

The dwelling holds three bedrooms, at least one of which appears to be in use as a workshop or office.

Stately country-style home in La Cañada Flintridge built in 1923 for the family of Standish L. Mitchell, a former CEO of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

As it happens, Sumner Hunt and Silas Burns designed the 5,492 square-foot home. They also designed the club’s recognizable headquarters in University Park—as well as the Southwest Museum. (Hunt also designed the original plans for the Bradbury Building.)

If the home looks familiar, perhaps you’ve seen it in one of its many film appearances. Additionally, the residence has played prominent roles in the original In-Laws with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin, The Good German, and The House Bunny. (Interiors subbed in for the Playboy Mansion).

But the home has plenty to offer beyond pedigree and IMDB credits.

Furthermore, Containing six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths, the expansive interior features original hardwood floors, fireplaces, crown moldings, and even a few era-appropriate bathroom fixtures.

Listing agent Brett Furrey tells Curbed the owners meticulously preserved the home’s original character, bringing in FK Design Group’s Marla Felber and Virginia Robinson Garden’s Tim Lindsay to assist with the updates. As a result the grounds are absolutely gorgeous.

Especially relevant is the extremely beautiful space around the house.

Located on 2.4 acres, the gated home is accessed by a long, winding driveway and surrounded by a forested, park-like yard. The back yard includes several patios and balconies for admiring the scenery. Additionally, an elegant swimming pool adds to Old World restrained luxury.
