Highlights from the 2018 Rose Parade
2018 Rose Parade
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE UNRIVALED CELEBRATION
The 2018 Rose Parade took place on January 1st, with the theme “Making a Difference.” This year’s parade marks the 129th Rose Parade, and featured live performances from Earth, Wind & Fire, Andy Grammer and Todrick Hall, local dancing and marching bands, and, of course, the parade floats! Below are some of the highlights of the unrivaled celebration, including members of the Podley Properties family.

.
Bill Podley and Family Ride Through the Parade on the Valley Hunt Club’s Horse-Drawn Carriage
![]() |
![]() |
Did you know… The Valley Hunt Club originated the Rose Parade in 1890. Memorabilia of the time show that it was a “Tournament of Roses” — the name being coined by Charles F. Holder and inspired by the flower festival at Nice and pre-Lenten “War of the Roses” in Rome. The Valley Hunt Club has been an annual participant since 1983.
.
.
Sierra Madre Rose Float Association wins the Fantasy Award with “Chivalry!”
Fun Fact: Sierra Madre is the smallest city to enter a float in the parade. The volunteers comes together to self-build and self-fund the annual float creation. A Rose blossom tree graces the front of the float. A First Aid kit is being used by young boy standing on a parapet to bandage a lady dragon’s paw.
.
.
La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association wins the Bob Hope Humor Award for the most whimsical and amusing float with “PandaMonium.”
